Unit 8 - La playa
About the unit
Countries and weather types account for most of the new language in unit eight, which has ‘the beach’ as its main theme. Clothes vocabulary is reviewed and, for the first time in this scheme of work, there’s an activity which revises selected vocabulary from each of the previous units. As the children are now very familiar with verbal use of the core vocabulary, word recognition and writing practice are stepped up.
Expectations
At the end of this unit, most children will:
- recognise and say various items of clothing
- recognise several countries and say some of them
- become familiar with weather terms
- recognise and say various colours
- say what they want
- say they like something
Some children will not have made so much progress and will:
- recognise various items of clothing
- recognise some countries
- be capable of playing Hide and Seek in Spanish
- recognise vocabulary from previous units
- recognise weather terms when associated with appropriate symbols
- show confidence when saying familiar colours
Some children will have progressed further and will:
- recognise and say several countries
- instantly recognise and say vocabulary from previous units
- confidently make a weather forecast based on information provided
- distinguish between and be able to say they like something or they like something a lot
