Unit 10 - La fiesta
About the unit
A birthday party is the theme for the final unit. Unit ten is quite challenging for the children, largely because it reviews selected language from previous units - on occasion in blocks at a time – to consolidate language the children have learned over the course of this Scheme of Work. As a consequence, many of the activities are longer than in earlier units. In addition to the recapping, there’s still some new language to be introduced, as well as plenty of writing practice and word recognition.
Expectations
At the end of this unit, most children will:
- say their age and ask somebody their age
- explain which is their favourite colour
- say what they like to do
- write some improvised sentences of their own
- recognise and use some expressions with tener (verb: to have)
- recognise and say some body parts
- express pain
- recognise seasons
- ask what somebody's name is
- confidently write about themselves
- recall most locations from the series
Some children will not have made so much progress and will:
- say their age
- say the name of their favourite colour
- write some controlled sentences about various topics, including about themselves
- recognise some expressions using tener
- recognise some body parts
Some children will have progressed further and will:
- speak and write about themselves confidently
- write several fluent improvised sentences
- recognise and use all expressions with tener
- recognise and say most body parts
- recall information about all ten locations from the series
