
Unit 1 - El parque
About the unit
In this first unit the children are introduced to some of the most useful words and phrases in the Spanish language. The main objective of the unit is introductions. The children will start to learn the Spanish for greetings, saying goodbye, saying their names and saying how they are feeling. They will also become familiar with numbers one to five in Spanish, along with a few colours.
Expectations
At the end of this unit, most children will:
- greet somebody
- say goodbye to somebody
- count from one to five
- understand the concept of introducing themselves
Some children will not have made so much progress and will:
- develop pairwork and group skills by using language learnt in the unit
- understand the concept of a new language
- recognise some characters from the DVD
Some children will have progressed further and will:
- introduce themselves
- praise somebody
- initiate a short dialogue
- try to recall and use other words from the unit
- know the names of some of the characters from the DVD
