What to do

Introduction to theme

First play the very short segment on the DVD which shows finger counting. [Or play clip here]

Activity

Hold up five fingers to the children and if possible also hum the tune you hear for counting five fingers on the DVD. The children can hold their hands up, taking turns to hum the tune. (Remember that musical patterns greatly assist memorising of words - as in nursery rhymes).

Next, pop up 1,2,3,4,5 fingers as you hum the tune. Again, the children can follow your lead.

Finally, count the fingers in Spanish, in time with the tune:

Uno (One) Play sound

Dos (Two) Play sound

Tres (Three) Play sound

Cuatro (Four) Play sound

Cinco (Five) Play sound

Listen to the counting in time with tune here: Play sound

You could count toes instead if you like!

Extension

If the children are comfortable counting to five in Spanish, try the same activity as above but counting to ten. These are the numbers 6-10 in Spanish:

Seis (Six) Play sound

Siete (Seven) Play sound

Ocho (Eight) Play sound

Nueve (Nine) Play sound

Diez (Ten) Play sound
