The Homeschooler’s Speekee Adventure – 11

Week 11

This week we continued on with the lesson about the home.  We spent time learning the names for immediate family members.  My 9 year old enjoyed introducing each of us. We also worked on the days of the week.  It was interesting to learn that in the Spanish culture, the days of the week start with Monday.  We had some trouble getting the hang of the days’ names.  So we decided to put it into the same song that we used to learn the days of the week when my children were younger.  This helped a lot.  Speaking of songs, my 3 year old really enjoys the Speekee intro song.  When she hears it start, she comes running from the other room.

The Homeschooler’s Speekee Adventure – 7

Speekee – Week 7

Another week of Speekee and lots of progress is being made.  We were still focused on the cafe and watched several clips from it to keep our memories fresh.

Our highlight was learning contento (happy) and triste (sad).

Learning the same vocabulary in Speekee - with fans!

I would call out either contento or triste and my daughters would mimic the correct facial expression.  Then I would make the faces and they would pick the correct answer.  My now 3 year old loved making the happy and sad faces.  My 9 year old took it a step further and drew a silly face that was happy one way and sad when turned the other way.  She had fun turning it the correct way, based on the word I called out.  These hands-on activities are key to helping the words stick in a little one’s mind.  Kudos to Speekee for the great activity ideas.

Have a great week,

Kimberly

The Homeschooler’s Speekee Adventure – 6

Speekee – Week 6

Welcome to week 6 of our journey, our 2nd week visiting “El café”.  While at the café, we practiced our words and pretended to be visiting the restaurant ourselves.  We discussed greetings, introductions, thank you’s, like/don’t like.  My 9 year old is making a great deal of progress with these topics.  We also began to practice the Spanish words for milk, orange juice, and water – my 9 year old pretending to order from me. Playing restaurant is a fun way to cover many of the words which are learning.

Have a great week,

Kimberly

The Homeschooler’s Speekee Adventure – 5

Speekee – Week 5

Another week of adventures with Speekee.  This week focused on the video, “El Café”. In addition to watching the video, we spent time reviewing some useful words and terms from the lesson.  We focused on colors (pink, green, orange, and yellow), counting, hot/cold, and I like it/I don’t like it.  We also reviewed some terms from previous weeks to help refresh our memories, such as introductions and farewells.  I think Speekee is a fun way to learn Spanish and I am enjoying using it as part of our homeschool curriculum.

Have a great week,
Kimberly

The Homeschooler’s Speekee Adventure – 4

Speekee – Week 4

Another week complete and here comes our weekly wrap-up.  We re-watched Video 1 – “El Parque”.  Then we reviewed some of the things that we have learned the past few weeks.  We practiced greetings, introductions, counting, etc.  Our favorite review game was playing “CUIDADO!” One of us would pretend to do something dangerous (like holding an unlit candle) and the rest of us would shout, “CUIDADO!” My 2 year old kept asking to playing long after we were done.  She picked up on it so quickly.  My best “ah-ha” moment of the week was when my 2 year old was playing play-doh and began counting the play-doh tubs on her own in Spanish.  Wow, not only does she get it, she remembers it, and thinks of it on her own.

Have a great week,
Kimberly
